About This Book

In 1999 when I received American Express’s “Circumnavigating Africa By Concorde” brochure, I told Barb this would be the trip of a lifetime. A phrase often overused, it turned out to not only be the trip of a lifetime, never having been done before…but moreover it would never be done again. I’ve always felt you shouldn’t put opportunities off because you may never have another chance. This was one of those opportunities.

“Circumnavigating Africa By Concorde” was to be a world speed record trip around the continent of Africa. A three-week trip originating in Washington, D.C., it included seven legs experiencing a taste of Africa…finally returning to Washington, D.C.
